Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, her grandmother as well as her godparents. Her father was absent from her family. As a child she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder, suffering anxiety related to the word association. Ford became interested in the profession of acting in her teen years, and was a part of the National Youth Theatre. Ford gained entry to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, however, she decided after one week that she was a poor fit there. Ford decided to apply for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement at the third time she applied for and was awarded an admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama. A classmate of hers were Shaun Dingwall, who would later have a recurring role as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford earned her bachelor's degree in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut on Surgical Spirit in an episode from the year 1991. Ford took the professional name of Catherine Tate. Tate made her television debut in 1991and appeared on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate would also frequently work in theatre and eventually joined the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season of 2000-2001. Tate received recognition for her comedy stand-up and became part of her resume in 1996.
