Linda Edna Cardellini (n e Lorraine (Hernan), was born to Wayne David Cardellini (a businessman) in Redwood City. Linda is Italian (from a paternal grandfather), Irish (from a mother), German and English. Linda was raised within California in the San Francisco Bay area, California, the youngest of four kids. At the age of ten, old, Linda became fascinated with acting after performing an instrumental role in the Christmas show at her school. The school continued to offer shows and also community theater. After her success in the role of Lady Rose MacClare on the period drama Downton Abbey from 2012-2015 her debut role was in the fantasy movie Cinderella in 2015. James continued to play the Countess Natasha Rostova in the television adaptation of War & Peace (2016) as well as starring in various movies, including the action film Baby Driver (2017), the period dramas Darkest Hour (2017), The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018) as well as The Dig (2021), and musicals Mamma Mia! We Go Back Again (2018) and Yesterday (2019). She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award in 2022 to play Pamela Anderson, the star of Pam & Tommy.
